Magnified at 20 times, Otodectes cynotis, or what are also known as ear mites, are quite common and can cause severe irritation and itchiness of the ears. Ear mites feed on skin debris and primarily live in the ear canal. They are mostly spread by direct contact with another animal that has ear mites, and are especially common in young animals. If you believe your pet has ear mites, contact your veterinarian and begin treatment as soon as possible!
